Levittown, NY 11756  was founded in 1929 by Abraham Levitt, the owner of Levitt and Sons, Inc. Abraham, a pioneer in community planning, assembly-line techniques, and mass production had a vision for this community and built it accordingly between 1947 and 1951. Prior to 1947 Levittown, 11756 was a Quaker settlement. After the Civil War, German immigrants coming in from Hicksville, NY established farms along what is now the Hempstead Turnpike. Prior to being named Levittown, this fertile area was nicknamed “Island Trees” and got its name from the ancient and massive pine trees that grew on this part of the island. Another familiar site in Levittown during the 1900s was the span of massive rural airfields from before WW11. From the late 1800s to about the 1930s the Long Island Railroad operated through the future neighborhood of Levittown to transport seed potatoes, crops, seeds, passengers, and livestock. Once the development of Levittown and its suburban infrastructure began, Abraham and the company used this rail station as a way of transporting the building materials needed to construct the town.
